Whether your family goals are to be more active or eat more vegetables, it’s best to make changes in small steps. Use SMART goals to create a roadmap to achieve your goals.
SMART goals are
Specific: Include details about who, what, when, where, and how.
Measurable: Include a number (how much, how often) so you can clearly measure your success.
Achievable: Choose an action that your family is able to do.
Realistic: Choose a goal that everyone is willing to try – something they will enjoy!
Timely: Set a date to start your goal.
Here’s an example of a SMART goal
- Starting this week, our family will prepare and eat dinner at home together at least three times a week.
There is no such thing as perfect
It is unrealistic to expect any parent to be a perfect role model. Try your best, and focus on your family’s successes. Don’t worry about the occasional times when things don’t work out the way you expected – just try again!
