Here are a few questions to ask yourself to see if you live in a healthy community:
- Are there sidewalks on at least one side of the street?
- Are shops, grocery stores, schools, libraries, health care centres, recreation centres, and parks within walking distance?
- Is there a direct, easy way to walk or cycle to these places?
- Is walking or cycling in my neighbourhood pleasant and enjoyable?
- Are trees, benches, and boulevards provided?
- Is there good lighting on the streets?
- Is public transit close by?
- Are structures in place to slow down traffic, such as speed limits, two-way traffic, and roundabouts?
